THE WEDNESDAY EVENING POST FOR AUGUST 18TH 2010

Hey All!

Hope everyone's week is going well.  Another Hump Day is upon us, and so once again it is time for another Wednesday Evening Post.

I have a couple of Halloween cards to share and one Thank You card as well.  So here they are:

I'll start with a Halloween card:

I created this Halloween night scene by first masking off for the moon and then sponging the moon to give it color.  I then stamped the tree and cat (Artful Inkables) and the bats and spider (PTI) directly onto the moon with Archival jet black ink.  I then re-masked the moon and sponged the night sky using Black Soot distress ink.  I then added the dot stars with a silver gel pen.  I then tore strips of dark green card stock, sponged them with the Black Soot distress ink, then cut them to fit the card.  Once attached, I went over the edges with the silver gel pen.  Has a Tim Burton kind of feel to it doesn't it?

My next Halloween card is made using some new rubber I just got from Impression Obsession.    Here it is:

When I saw this stamp, I knew it would magically appear in my stock.  I colored the image with colored pencils, but did not use my oms except on the grassy area.  Once colored, I sponged the early evening sky background.  That is the beauty of using colored pencils.  They resist the ink that is sponged on because of the wax in them.  The sponging is actually darker than it shows in the photo.  This stamp is called "Free Parking".

Final card for this post is a thank you card that I'm not too sure about.  It is one of those cards that I had in my head, but ended up looking nothing like I had envisioned.  Here it is:

I really debated whether to even post this.  You have to click on the pic to actually see the detail.  As most of you know me well, I'm not good at "mixing" papers and patterns.  No, I've never worn stripes and plaids together, but I just have an issue with cards that look too busy.  I think that is my problem here.  I also think that the flowers are too bright. . .Plus, I drew the stems in by hand, and it looks like the flowers are all wobbly or drunk.  Can't you just see them swaying from side to side saying "Hey!  I'll have another shot of that Miracle Grow."  LOL  Oh well, I hope the person I sent this to likes it.  It's the thought that counts, right?  I did this card using the technique I just learned over at Gina K Designs Stamp TV episode this week.  You can check it out HERE.  You'll see why my flower panel looks like it does!

OK, that's it for another Wednesday Evening Post.  Hope you enjoyed your visit.  I made a big mistake on my last Wednesday's post when I told you not to forget to look at the pic of the week.  Well. . . . .I forgot to change it!  LOL  I'm sure some of you thought "Isn't that the same pic he has had up for awhile?"  LOL  I'm such a dork.  So, let's try this again. . . .Don't forget the "Pic of the Week" below!  I promise, it is different.

Hugs to all of you!

Best,

Curt O'Brien

Love those! My favorite is the first one - I love what you did with the moon. It does look a little Tim Burton-ish, you're right! Halloween cards are the most fun.

Curt you are just hilarious! I remember looking at the picture of the week and thinking , I swear I seen this picture somewhere.
I do see this is a new one!
My favorite card is the free parking, I have a friend that would just love that one. I am always so impressed with your coloring, but your inking is right up there also. Love that you take the time to make a creation and not just "slap" a card together...I know people have go to love your cards because they are special.
Did you see my post today? I used some of the paper I won from your last giveaway...it was perfect.
Hugz to all of you.

Ha! I forgot it was Weds., so you 'snuck up on me'!!! Gosh, I love your cards! I haven't had a chance to try the flocking yet, but I plan to! My favorite is the parking card - I smiled out loud at that one! Too cute! And that moon??? Wonderful job of masking! I love them all! I know what you mean about the mixing and matching - I have troubles liking what I do with that as well. Your card, however, looks absolutely perfect to me!!! Great job, once again, sir!!! Thinking of you all, and hoping all is well! Hugs!

First of all, thank you so much for your encouraging comments on my blog. I think I am the lucky one to have such a wonderful blogging friend!
Your Halloween cards are making my hands twtch! I think I will HAVE to try my hand at some of them even though nobody in SA really cares about Halloween. Who knows? Maybe I will start a new trend. LOL
Your Thank you card? I think it is great - I agree its not really you, but that is what makes our hobby fun - we can stretch ourselves a little every now and then and then, if you don't like it, you just say: OK, tried that, didn't like it, lets do something else now. The flowers don't look drunk to me at all - could still be the meds I am on. LOL
Your photo of the week? STUNNING! How do you do it? I would love to take some spectacular Macro shots like that, but never happens for me I'm afraid.

Hi Curt, wonderful Halloween cards, I love the moon you did such a great job on it and the second with the fence! I personally like your thank you card, I love the cards I get that
are done in reds and oranges, they just pop in your face when you take them out of the envelope and put a smile on my face. Hey, great new "pic of the week". I was chuckling when I saw last week's as I knew it was a little glitch. Oh well we all have our moments. Take care and sending hugs to everyone.

Well you are a wonderfully talented dork Curt!!! wowsers those cards are exceptional. I love the paper tearing you have done in card one, it looks so effective. The stamps in both cards are gorgeous Curt. Now to your final card, i love it. You are far too critical on yourself and hopefully some of us gals have managed to persuade you that it is a great card! whoever receives it will be very happy indeed. Big hugs to you, Clare xxx

Hi Curt! LOVE the bright moon and all the spooky things happening around it! Clever to use dark green for the hills - not just plain old black.

Thanks for the tip about the pencils resisting the sponging - I never thought of that, and I can use that one!! Your card is awesome - that image is adorable - very fun!

I did notice your new photo (I was late to check in on the Monday post so you must have already fixed it!) - I love that the bug gets flash-eyes also! tee, hee.

Hugs!!

Curt I love all three card but that first one is my favorite. It does have a Tim Burton feel. I love the little kitten and that tree is so cool.
I love them all! I have the same trouble with putting stripes and plaids together but in paper art it some how works great. I love Gina's episodes. I don't live to far from her store. I haven't been there in a year. I do love her stamps.
