THE WEDNESDAY EVENING POST FOR JUNE 22, 2011

Hey All!

Happy Hump Day to each and everyone of you.  I hope this post finds you well and happy.  Also, Happy Summer!  Where did Spring go?  Did we actually have Spring???

This post is going to be short and sweet (alright, who out there was clapping???)  I have something to show you that I'm so excited about!  But I'm saving it for last as hard as that is for me.  On to the post. . .

Here are my fist few cards all in one picture so click on it to make it bigger so you can see them better:
I love this new set from Friskars.  It is a red rubber set and the images stamp beautifully.  I made all 3 of these cards with the set and didn't even use half of it.  The sentiments are part of the set as well.  I am trying to build up my "generic" type cards stash and I thought these really fit the bill.  I colored them all with my cheap colored pencils and oms.  The center images are popped up with dimensional dots.  These were quick to do and turned out really fun.  The images could be used for lots of occasions and are very quick to color.  Even though I'm not a big fan of Friskar's paper cutters, I think they hit a home run with this stamp set.  I got it at JoAnn Fabrics and plan to get a few more of their sets with coupons.

Next card is a get well card:
Super simple card.  The inside says "Heard You Were Under The Weather".  The stamp is a single umbrella image that I stamped 4 times.  The stamp is one of those $1 stamps that you find in the $1 bin.  I ran the stamped image through my CB with the Swiss Dots embossing folder as well as the navy blue mat behind the image panel (you can't see it very well in the photo).  I wanted to get the "feel" of rain as well as wind with the DP.  It is a simple get well but colorful which I think makes it cheery.

OK, now for my fun thing to share with you. . . .are you ready????  Take a look at this:

Tah Dah!!!!  My newest purchase!!!  My family and friends decided last year that we would no longer exchange birthday gifts with each other.  We said we'd take the money we would spend on each other and buy our own gift!  My birthday was this past weekend (thanks to you all that sent me cards and wonderful surprises!!! I was truly touched by your kindness.) and I decided that I wanted to start doing some sewing on my cards and take them to the next level.  I had originally went to by the Janome Sew Mini, but when I got to Hancock Fabrics to buy it, this little beauty was sitting next to it on sale.  The Janome is a tiny little craft sewing machine and this one is a full size.  The Janome had 8 built-in stitches, this one has 25.  The Janome was $79.00, the Brother was on sale for $89.00!!!  Can you believe it?!?

I've never sewn a stitch in my life on a machine, so I felt a little intimidated pulling it out of the box and reading the manual.  But to my surprise, I was up and practicing zig-zag stitching in less than 20 minutes.  I wound the bobbin, threaded the machine, and sewed the first scrap of cardstock to another with a zig-zag stitch without one problem!  I am so excited about this.  So my next post will undoubtedly showcase my first "sewn" cards.  I've been practicing all evening.  I've also bought several gorgeous pieces of fabric to integrate with my cards.  I've got so many "cloth cards" floating in my head waiting to get out.  So stay tuned.

Also, next week's post will have my BLOG CANDY GIVEAWAY!  And it will be related to the above (that's your hint) and I think you will really be excited about it.  So be sure you come back next Wednesday to get in on the action!

PIC OF THE WEEK:

BLUE BIRD OF HAPPINESS
Thanks again for stopping by and being the wonderful people you truly are.  I'm still working on getting around to all of you and I will be there, don't worry.  It has been amazing to me all the emotions I've felt in visiting those of you I have.  There has been some very sad news on some blogs, and very happy news on others.  It is just like dropping in on friends and families catching up on all the happenings in their lives.

Hugs to all of you!  Love you all. . . .

Best,

Curt

Hi, Curt! Your cards are so adorable, and those are a great set of stamps -- even the stamp from the $1 bin made such a cute card.

But, wow, what a great gift that sewing machine is!!! Okay, so you've never sewn, but I have this overwhelming feeling I'm going to be blown out of my socks when I see the first project you used that machine on!!!

Glad to hear the "joy" back in you too; hope that's a good sign things are going well!

Continued prayers for Jay, that his recouperation is going better and better each passing day!

Hugs, my friend!!!

I can't believe I missed your birthday! I hope it was a happy one. I love those cards - I didn't even know Fiskars made red rubber stamps. Our Joann's is opening next week and I can't wait! Congratulations on your new toy - I can't wait to see what you do with it, I know it will be wonderful. Send that bluebird of happiness down my way, willya? I promise to send him back soon.

Well Happy Belated Birthday...I know we go through this every year because I have it burned into my brain that you are an October baby...oh goodness! Love that fiskars set with those darling sentiments! Cant wait to see your sewing! Maybe you will inspire me to use mine! It just sits there all lonely!!!

Hi Curt! I love your cards - the Under the Weather one is perfect, just the ticket! I'm going to case that one!!

I LOVE my Janome mini - I should use it more often because it's so easy and I always am so thrilled with the effects of stitching on cards. You will love your machine!

Did anyone warn you to think about where you place adhesive under the paper? If you run the needle through adhesive it can wear out your machine faster. If I'm stitching right at the edge, I put the adhesive in just a little bit - KWIM?

Hugs! Glad you had a good birthday!

Good morning from a VERY cold South Africa. So good to 'hear' your voice again, I really missed it. Life on my side has been very hectic with exams and all sorts, but should be returning to normal soon (I hope!!)
Love those cards. I need to get some generic cards going, my stock is dwindling at an alarming pace. That umbrella card is such a cute idea, I think I might just use the idea if you don't mind.
Hope you had a fantastic birthday and that Jay is doing much better.
Three weeks from today I am on a plane, going to America, can't wait! Just such a pity that CHA is in Chicago and I won't get to meet you in person, unless... you decide to take a break in Chicago and come to CHA too ... hint, hint LOL

Belated birthday wishes Curt. Wow, look at your new toy. Can't wait to see what you make with it. My sewing machine sits in my sewing roon unused except for sewing fabric. lol
I just haven't been game enough to try the sewing on cardstock yet. Perhaps I should give it a go.

Love you rainy day card...so cute and you added the special touch by creating your own rain with the dotted swiss. Very cute. I have to get me a sewing machine like that as I use my big one when I do my cards and I know that's pretty silly. Pat

I'm going to head to the skate shop and buy a chin guard today, because I just know that next week's 'sewn' projects will have my chin hitting the ground! Can't wait to see what you create with that beauty - talk about eye candy! Wowzers! Your cards are so 'sweet' - I can almost smell those cookies baking! Love your umbrella card too - I use my $1 stamps so often! I have bluebirds in the yard that I watch, but they are huge, not cute and small like yours - great photo!!! And last....your birthday really isn't in October???? I just got my calendar out, and I have you written in on October 19th! Sigh.... Happy belated birthday, dear friend! Hope you had a great day, and can forgive my forgetfulness! Hugs the boys - take care!

Crap ... sorry I missed your birthday, Curt. Hope you had a wonderful day and I wish you many, many, many, many more to come.

Your cards are so sweet and it looks like you will be getting lots of use from your new Fiskars set. And can't wait to see what you create with your new 'little Brother'. There's probably smoke in your brain from it working overtime with all of the ideas you have in there.

Hugs to Jay and the the puppies.

Happy Belated Birthday. Sorry I missed it. But it sounds like you had a great one and you scored a super present..a new "baby". Enjoy your new sewing machine and you made a wish choice by upgrading to a real machine. Well you mastered it much quicker than most people I know..before you know it you'll be sewing things for the house. lol!

Love the Bluebird..one of my favorites. I have a few in my yard every once in a while. Hope this one brought you some happiness.

As always your cards are divine and glad to see you back creating again.

Super news to hear that Jay is back home and well on his way to recovery....will continue to keep him and you in my thoughts.

Yummy cards, love the cookies, how perfect and cute.

Sorry I missed your birthday, buddy. Hope it was a happy one! :) Those cards are great. Love the coordinating sentiments. :) Question about your new toy: does it have an automatic threader? I have a Sew Mini and thinking about upgrading to a machine that has an automatic threader. :) Take care and happy sewing!

Oh my gosh!! Those cards look so delicious!!! I just love simple cards that really pop! Those do the trick! The umbrellas are beautiful too...perfect for a get well card!

NO WAY...A SEWING MACHINE!!! I am sooooooooo jealous!! I have been wanting one to also try and sew on my cards! I should go try my moms to know how well I like it first...might just have to take a drive there soon...seems like it would rip paper especially thin stuff. Any troubles with thin paper yet??

Can't wait to see your stitching!
Take care!

I am loving your "simple" cards- and those designs are wonderful!
A very late Happy Birthday!
I have a brother machine and let me tell you it is a workhorse...I taught myself to sew on it many years ago.
I love the use of stitches on projects. I finally put mine out last year so I see it and can use when I want with it tucked away.

I was just thinking about some of the fun costumes I have made through the years for my children.
Yes I think you made a great purchase.
Hope all is well with Jay and the boys
All my best

HiCurt, glad to see you today and ashamed I didn't see your B-day,but I can't even keep track of my own kids, grandkids. Always know it is close and then late everyday. Has become kind of a joke with them. Loved the umbrella card the most I think. Bet you will love your new craft item and will become a master at it.

I gave my singer to my daughter years ago. I bought your machine over a year ago and it is still in the box. Thanks for the motivation! Hope Jay is doing well too!

Tonight I decided it was time to come out of the shadows and say Happy Belated Birthday (man, you sure know how to buy a present!) and thanks for sharing. I have that very same umbrella stamp and that's a super fabulous card and I'm probably going to copy it. I'll pop in again. Until then, take care

Hi Curt, it was sooo good to hear from you my friend, and yes, my Granddaughters are growing at an alarming pace. Rebekah is nearly 5 - where does time go.....!!! Hope Jay is recuperating well, have been following you both and thinking of you.... Love the sewing machine, can't wait to see what you do with it. Stitching on a card does take it to the next level, and is such a beautiful finish to a project - Hark me!!! I should take a leaf and try stitching myself...hee hee.. Your cards this post are gorgeous as always, love your colouring with your cheapie pencils. I'm the same, though I don't do much colouring - too time consuming for me.... Now to finish off here, you need to hop over to my blog where I've got something really sweet for you.... Hugs, my friend xx

Hello, Curt! I'm a first time visitor. Wound up here by way of the House Mouse blog. I've read through your last few posts and enjoyed them very much. I love your enthusiasm as well as your cards and photography. I know you'll enjoy stitching your cards. Once I took the plunge there was no turning back! And your two beautiful Schnauzers -- well, I can feel your love and devotion. We recently celebrated our Wally's 2nd birthday (Golden Retriever). I'd say we spoil him, but not so. He's the one who spoils us with more love than I'm sure we deserve. Making a note to read Merle's Door (thanks for that!). Happy belated birthday to both Shotsy and you!
