WEDNESDAY EVENING POST FOR SEPTEMBER 29, 2010

Hey All!

Happy Hump Day!  I wanted to say thanks to all of you who left me such wonderful comments regarding my father's death and my brother's birthday.  You all are so wonderful and I honestly don't know what I'd do with out you!

I also wanted to let you know that I've resigned from my House Mouse Design Team position.  I am just trying to lessen some of the complication in my life.  I also just want to concentrate on my own creativity and crafting for me.  You'll still see HM cards on my blog because I love them so much.  I'm just jot on the DT any longer.  It was a fun stint and I am honored that I was a part of such a wonderful group of women.

OK, it's time for another Wednesday Evening Post, and as has become almost traditional, I have 3 cards to share with you tonight.  So, here they are. . .

My first is a birthday card for a great neighbor.  She turned 70 last week, and I'm taking her to lunch on Friday to celebrate.  Here is the card I made for her:

I love this Penny Black stamp and I've had it for quite a while.  This is its debut card.  Since it was her 70th birthday, I thought this card was so appropriately funny.  Look at that one chicken getting ready to blow out the candles and the one's look of worry on his face with the fire extinguisher LOL.  This is a technique combo where I "painted" the ground, table, cake and extinguisher with Distress Inks.  The beaks and red thingies are colored with colored pencils/oms.  I used a Sizzix EF for the background because it looks like chicken wire to me.  OMG!!!!  I just looked at the picture and noticed I didn't color one of the beaks!!!!  LOL  I can't believe that!  Good thing I haven't given it to her yet!!!!

My next card is an Thanksgiving card. . .

Another one that I "painted" with my Aqua Brush and Ranger Distress Inks.  It seems that I'm slowly but surely moving away from my beloved colored pencils and moving more towards those wonderful distress inks.  I chose this sentiment (by Stampendous) on purpose because it is usually used for Christmas cards.  However, I think it is a great sentiment for Thanksgiving too.  The image is by Penny Black and the papers are by Recollections.

My last card to share tonight is a Halloween card. . .You know I rarely do Halloween cards (eyes looking up at the ceiling looking very innocent) LOL  This one is pretty generic but I like how it turned out. . .

I don't even like candy corn!!!  And I don't like it even more after stamping and coloring all of these!  I did several to fill the jar by masking several of them.  This is my first attempt at faux stitching.  How did I do???  I can't determine if I did it well or not.  The jar stamp is by Inkadinkadoo and the single candy corn stamp is by Recollections.  I punched the two corners with a MS punch and added bling.  Candy corn was colored with colored pencils/oms.  The lid was colored with a silver gel  pen.  I tied a little bow using some orange jewelry cord.  Sentiment is by Studio G.

OK, that is it!  Another Wednesday Evening Post is at a close.  Don't forget to look at the "Pic of the Week"!

Thanks again for stopping by.  I'm so pleased that you do!

Hugs to all of you!

Best,
Curt O'Brien

Laughing at that chicken card...she is going to love it (white beak and all...lol).....am loving your "distress ink" coloring...did you know if you squeeze the middle of the SU ink pads, it puts ink on the inside of the case and you can use the aqua painter on them, too....might work well with the distress iks...just a thought! The jar of candy corn looks so real, bet it was a big job to mask and color all of them...whew!! Sorry to hear you dropped out of the DT....I understand...heck I have a hard enough time just keeping my blog going on a normal basis....best to you and will look forward to your "own" housemouse posts! Take care!!

Where do I start ..... I will start with every time I see Curt In Carmel I want to do the crawl ...... I Carmel by the Sea !!! I love that you used the sentiment "No Place like Home" because I really feel that Thanksgiving is the perfect time for that as we all watch a little football maybe play a game ourselves ...... we all get in on the kitchen action and tons of laughing. Not that there is not laughing at Christmas but there are no toys to put together, no wrapping paper to recycle no batteries to put in ........ just good old family fun on Turkey Day!!! I am a candy corn freak ....... so I want to eat your card and the Chickens are CRACKING ME UP~~~ Fantastic post Curt. I really look forward to Wednesdays and know that I am going to learn tons from you!!!!

I had to go back and look at the first card again. I didn't even notice the one white beak until you mentioned it. I'm sure your friend will love it and will enjoy lunch with you.

The Thanksgiving card is another masterpiece! Beautiful coloring and the sentiment is perfect.

As much as I like sweets, I don't really care for candy corn either. But, your jar of them does look inviting! Love the top corners.

Curt, I will miss you on HM. You are the reason I bought their stamps...LOL
Love the PB cards you made! The one with the fire extinguisher cracked me up. Love your faux stitching and the candy corn. Last but not least, I really like that sentiment for that card. So many people travel home for Thanksgiving but not for Christmas.

Hi Curt! I always loved your cards with HM but I love all of your cards! I'm still here - - - the chickens are hilarious! I spit my water on the monitor screen when you realized the one beak wasn't colored yet! You are SO funny!! (I've done that - I see things in a photograph that I just don't see in real life!).

I, too, think of home for the holidays when I think of Thanksgiving. Maybe even more so for Thanksgiving. It's a beautiful card!

The candy corn is neat, too. I never thought about it, but that is a lot of candy corn to be coloring - I guess it would get tiring (or make me hungry!).

Hugs!

Great cards Curt! I love Penny Black too. I don't like candy corn except when it is mixed with dry roasted peanuts. Then it is yum! It taste like Salted Nut Rolls. It must have take forever to stamp all that candy corn. You really did a great job masking. Your stitching looks real. You did a great job. That is really a cool MS punch. I don't think I have seen that one. It looks great on this card.

Hi, Curt! All 3 of your cards are just amazing and your 70 year old neighbor must love having you so near to her and making these wonderful cards. I'm sure you're a great neighbor to her too!!!

Thank you so much for dropping in on me and for leaving me a comment. I love when company comes by and I so hope they always feel welcome.

I have to tell you, Shotzy and Gunther are just beautiful fur-babies! I love them already!!! LOL!

You have a great looking blog and before I leave I'll be doing a bit more browsing. In the meantime, I try very hard not to let friends get away from me; so, expect to hear from me again soon!

Have a great one, my friend!!!

Curt, that chicken card is hilarious! Maybe his beak is white because he's had the color scared-drained out of it?! ;) And I know what you mean about candy corn. I don't like it, either and coloring each one is even LESS fun. :) As always, your cards turn out great. I may have to try the "painting" technique. :) You should try your hand at video tutorials!
